The star shaped nut on the arbor, or center post, has a left hand thread and are fragile, I use a 7/16 socket to hold the nut when removing.

I have had a couple that would not come off, if it wont turn easily stop!

Notice the hole in the bottom plate has a slot filed in it.Picture #7   This is for the tab on the arbor that holds the end of the mainspring also in picture 7. You have to hold the squair on the arbor, I use a padded vise, and turn the arbor until the tab aligns with the slot, it has to exit the mainspring bearing surface first then the bottom plate and its a very tight fit.

When the reel foot is replaced it is not flat and alows the reel to tip in the direction of the rod tip, if the reel is on a boat rod the trigger would be in the back away from the line guide

This is the earliest Yawman & Erbe I has seen so far, it does not have the hinged brake lever and nickel plated gear parts  it is marked with the number 16.
